Andrew was born in Georgetown, British Guyana and came to Britain aged 17. He moved to Grimsby in 1963 and considers it his hometown.

Andrew campaigned against the Communist movement when he was only 15, joined the Liberals at the age of 19 and has been involved politically with the Liberals and later the Liberal Democrats, ever since.

Andrew has six children and is self-employed in the shipping industry in the Immingham area.
