A new committee structure was adopted at the Police Authority AGM on 23 June 2009. The purpose behind the changes was to increase the Authority's capability to ‘secure outstanding policing for local people’ primarily through embedding the oversight and scrutiny of Force performance into all aspects of its business. Prior to June 2007, the Authority held quarterly meetings, with an additional meeting in February to approve the Policing Plan and set the budget for the following year.  A variety of sub-committees were also held on a quarterly basis throughout the year (with the exception of the Standards Committee that was held twice per year).
